Richest Horses in The World

Sweet is this world I wish neer to depart, I yearn for a dwelling-place in humanitys heart.

Rabindranath Tagore, the legend was a poet, musician, artist, painter and much more. All Indians remember the icon for his composition of Jana Gana Mana, the National Anthem of India. Whenever the song is sung or played, it fills the heart with the feeling of patriotism and salutes this great legend that the country produced. Lovingly remembered as Gurudev, Kabiguru, and Biswakabi, he was the first Asian to win the Noble prize in literature in the year 1913. He won it for one of his masterpieces, a collection of poems by the name Gitanjali.

He dominated the literary scene for decades in India and was popular all across the world. Widely regarded as a cultural and social reformer, he took part in India’s freedom movement. The people associated with him would often remark that he has a mind ahead of his time. An all-time great, he indeed dwells in humanity’s heart just like he wished.

Born on 7th May 1861 to Debendranath Tagore and Sarada Devi, he was the youngest son among the 13 children. During those times, his family actively participated in Bengal renaissance. He was born into a family engaged in literary pursuits. His family, especially brothers and sisters were poets, philosophers, novelists, etc. It influenced him in his early childhood. The classic poetry of Kalidasa hugely inspired him as well. Being a child prodigy, he started writing poems at the age of 8. By the tender age of 16, he released his first collection of poems by the pseudonym Bhanusimha.

It was just the beginning as his poetic talent had no limitations. It was meant to reach greater heights.

He received basic training from his elder brothers. In 1878, he was sent to England for traditional education. He did not take an interest in the studies. Later, he enrolled at a University college in London for law studies. But again, he dropped out. Meanwhile, he acquainted himself with the literary works of Shakespeare and other English, Scottish, and Irish literature. This impacted him greatly. Deeply rooted in Indian and Western learning tradition, he returned to India.

In the meantime, he started gaining recognition in Bengal and all over India. His poems were translated into English by foreign writers, and thus his literary works became a huge hit in the west, mainly the European countries. This eventually got him the noble prize. He believed in the message of universalism or one world. The ideology and fame as a literary giant gave him the opportunity to travel all across Europe and Asia.

He contributed a lot to the freedom movement by providing the right language to it. With his poems and protest literature, he vehemently opposed British rule. Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore were good friends and admired each other. It was Tagore who gave the title of ‘Mahatma’ to Gandhi.

Besides, his elder brother Jyotirindranath played a significant role in his life. He experimented with different musical traditions. This experience exposed him to various forms of music like classical, folk and devotional. Though the multi-talented legend was famous for musical dramas, dance dramas, essays of all genres, travel diaries, drawings, paintings, the poetry was his forte. The profoundly sensitive, new, and magnificent verses thrilled every listener and reader alike. With the collection of poems like Manasi – 1890, Sonar Tari – 1894, Gitanjali – 1910, Muktadhara-1922, or Yogayog-1929, he touched and expressed all kinds of human emotions.

He wrote thousands of songs, inspired by his travels. He was also influenced by English, Irish, and Scottish folk music along with Hindustani classical music. On August 7, 1941, he breathed his last. One of his verses read: Death is not extinguishing the light; it is only putting out the lamp because the dawn has come.

The songs that were written and composed by him are called Rabindrasangeet. These have indeed stopped with his demise. But, it continues to evoke memories, and the emotions reverberate across decades within us.
