Common Paint Problems

So you have always wanted to paint your house or even just that corner that you absolutely love. And you have just done that! You have just undertaken a challenging yet gratifying task and feel immensely good about yourself. However, when you step back to admire your feat, you observe some tiny flaws. These could be anything- brush marks, stains, or even flaking paint. They may arise out of several reasons but don’t need to be permanent. While you could hang a painting or push over a couch to cover them, it is always better to fix them the right way.

We have put together a list of common paint problems and how to avoid and fix them. Read on to know more!

  • Dripping paint: If you see drops of paint stuck on your walls, it means there was excess paint on your brush that dripped. This common issue can be easily avoided while you are painting. Just ensure that your paintbrush is not loaded with paint. But if you observe this after you have finished painting, don’t fret. This problem is easy to solve by:

  1. Using a scraper lightly over the drips and scrape them off.
  2. Once you have scraped the drips, sand the area till it becomes smooth.
  3. Repainting the spot.

  • Cracking paint: If you see wrinkles or splits on the surface of your newly-painted walls, this means that the paint has cracked. The cracks may range from small to large and generally happened due to insufficient prepping of the surface, an incorrect mixing ratio of the hardener or reducer, excessive humidity or heat, or painting too fast too much. How to fix this:

  1. This is also fixed by gently curing the surface with a scraper.
  2. Once this is done, just reapply the paint and it will be smooth again.

  • Wall stains: Finishing the painting job only to see stains on the wall is not a great thing. They cannot be ignored even if you want to. The good news is that getting rid of stains on the wall is not very difficult and can be fixed easily. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Clean the area properly with TSP (Trisodium phosphate)
  2. Once it dries completely, apply an oil-based undercoat over the stain.
  3. Repaint once the undercoat is dry.

  • Paint is too bright: If you are experimenting with wall painting designs and expecting a particular colour but end up with a version that is a little too bright. For example, bright beige may look like a piercing yellow after drying. There is nothing to worry. This can be easily solved by:

  1. If you are yet to finish the paint job, you can always take it back to the paint company and ask them to mix it with a bit of white to tone it down.
  2. If you have finished painting and realise its brightness after that, use a glaze to tone down the colour.

  • Mildew on the walls: Finding mildew is never a pleasant sight. Occurring due to moisture trapped in the walls, mildew is not only an eyesore but can also cause health problems. You can take care of this by following these steps:

  1. Wash the area with TSP, bleach, and a hard brush.
  2. Let the wall dry for two days then paint with a primer that protects from mildew.
  3. Repaint with two coats of paint.

To avoid these mistakes, it is strongly advised to engage with professional painting services like Aapka Painter to have a seamless painting experience. Not only do they offer home painting services but also textures, wall arts, waterproofing jobs, etc. What’s more, they are focused on automation, service guarantee while focusing on customer delight all the time.

Can You Patch A Door?

Can You Patch A Door?

Doors with a hollow core are more popular and less expensive than those with a solid wood core, and they’re also far more brittle and easily damaged. While fixing holes in the doors or ugly scratches seems challenging, you could have them fixed in as little as a day or two. Your door may look as good as new with just a little work to repair any dents or scratches before applying a fresh coat of paint.

HOW TO PATCH A HOLE OR CRACK?

Carrying or Door Repair Sydney or patching a door requires several different steps, among which are as follows:

  1. REMOVE ANY DAMAGED WOOD FROM THE AREA SURROUNDING THE HOLE

There could be several stray splinters and pieces near the edges of the hole based on how the door was damaged. Instead of attempting to fix these, use a tool knife to remove any harmed wood until you are left with a hole that is clean and free of sharp edges.

  1. PUT PAPER TOWELS IN THE HOLE

Even though the paper towels won’t make the Modern Kitchens Sydney door sturdier or fix it, they are a quick, simple, and inexpensive solution to keep the insulating foam in position while it dries. Squish paper towels into the bottom and along the sides of the crack or hole, you’re trying to patch.

  1. USE EXPANDING FOAM INSULATION TO PLUG THE OPENING

The spray container for expanding insulation foam has a long nozzle on top. Start spraying by inserting the nozzle into the crack or hole in your door. Any surplus foam will extend through the door’s face and out the hole in the door after expanding to fill up the space inside the door.

  1. ALLOW THE INSULATING FOAM TO DRY OVERNIGHT

Drying completely is required before further work, such as cutting or sanding, may be done on the insulation foam after it has been used to plug the hole or crack. Wait 4–5 hours, or ideally overnight, to ensure the foam dries completely.

  1. USE A UTILITY KNIFE TO CUT OFF THE EXTRA FOAM

To flush insulation foam with the door face, place a utility knife just above any insulation foam sticking out. Cut away any extra foam by running the blade down the door’s surface and trimming it so that it is no higher than 2.5 mm below the door’s surface.

  1. APPLY A COAT OF AUTO-BODY FILLER FOR A STURDY REPAIR

Fill the hole in your door with a mixture of two parts auto-body filler and one component hardener catalyst. A putty knife’s edge can be used to spread and push the solution over the hole to fill any voids and bring it roughly to a flush finish with the drywall.

  1. USE SPACKLE TO FILL THE HOLE FOR A FASTER REPAIR

Spackle can be used in its place if auto-body filler is unavailable. Scoop up some spackle with a putty knife, then cover the gap in your door. To spread the spackle as evenly and smoothly as you can over the door, use long, fluid strokes.

You can then wait 1 hour for the surface to dry. Whether you carried out the project with an auto-body filler product/spackle, it can take approximately an hour for the compound to dry entirely. You need to give it that much time to dry and then use the door.
